CS 31.07.07: This song wasn't a word-for-word conversation I had with somebody, but its kind of like a conversation I have in my head with my numerous imaginary foes. Over the last month I have been re-reading the Earthsea books, and the image of a dragon dragging its scaly belly through ruinuous doorways got itself stuck in my head. Then I started thinking about ruinuous doorways (and pathways) that are real (not from an awesome fantasty trilogy). Real life stinks sometimes doesn't it? Looking around I started to see a lot of dragons squeezed into racing cars, giving bad advice.  We're onto you! Lots of love from CGirlxxx.

‘Good work’, he said
Well its good working with you too
I’ve got a good book to read about
Good looking guys like you

Good stuff to take to bed
Good stuff to dream about
I’ve seen my share of good stuff
So you shouldn’t have to shout

Always lucky-so-lucky
So far you’re still free from me
Always sweet, always clean
Always saying maybe
Maybe, maybe, maybe, maybe

‘Good luck’, he said
Well let me wish the same on you
I’ve got a lot of luck I’m riding on
And I just don’t have a clue

‘Lets work’, you say
‘Lets work it all out very soon’
But I’m hungry for each bone you throw
And so very thirsty too

Always lucky-so-lucky
So far you’re still free from me
Always sweet, always clean
Always saying maybe
Maybe, maybe, maybe, maybe

You’re always sweet, and you’re always clean
You’re a spit-shine boy
On a spit-shine scene
There’s a trick
In the dice you throw
But you bite down hard on it
You won’t let it show

‘Good times’ he said
Oh, well I’ve never known much else
I’ve been so very blessed you know
I’m sorry for myself

‘Stick out your neck’ you say
I’m giving you advice
Gotta stick it in the hardest place
You never get it right

Always lucky-so-lucky
So far you’re still free from me
Always sweet, always clean
Always saying maybe
Maybe, maybe, maybe, maybe
Maybe, maybe, maybe, maybe
Maybe, maybe, maybe, maybe

Gravatar "a note on dragons": I've always wanted to say that. my characterisation of fat bellied beasts squeezed into racecars doesn't honour ursula le guin's books. the 'earthsea' books begin and end with dragon interactions (another thing i've also always wanted to say in the public domain), and those dragons aren't quite the creatures i'm singing about in this song. but what can i say... the unknown enemy is always such a glamourous hit. i know its an anachromism (can there be such a thing in a fantasy book?), but thats what i see when i shut my eyes and see iron-plated, poisonous monsters. over and out from cgirlxx 8/13/2007 11:08 PM | calendargirl

Gravatar I really like the way the new website lets one easily play the various mixes in the little widget player. Before I had listened to the mixes on mixter, but this presentation lets one easily compare the versions.

The July commentary doesn't show up on mine when the songs are playing, but I'm not sure if that's an issue at my end, or perhaps you've got that disabled for July.

I'd been following this project on mixter, but listening to the other folks' mixes makes me intrigued to hear July. Your project is coming along nicely, and kudos to you for running it.

Although I think I am the least capable at this type of remixing 'pellas thing, being more attuned to sound experimentations of other sorts, it's such a good set of 'pellas and winning set of lyrics that I may try yet again to do your voice half the justice it deserves.

I left an over-enthusiastic gush over in the comments at mixter, since edited away, so I thought I'd leave instead this simple "thank you" for being so supportive of the artists who work with your material.

Gravatar Calendargirl, if you like science fiction or fantasy ("speculative fiction"), then you should consider Thomas M. Disch's _On Wings of Song_. There's a direct connexion with singing. It's very, very, very beautiful, and very, very, very political YB 9/6/2007 8:29 AM | Yitzhak Ben Binyamin

# re: July

Gravatar hi yitzhak. yes, i am quite fond of speculative fixtion, and funnily enough i have been reading Disch's very fine 'On Wings of Song'. but i was sidetracked a thrid of the way in by Chris Kraus' 'torpor' which i must recommended to you. soon i will return to Disch and beautiful speculation. Gravatar I'm a big PKD fan myself, I'll take a crack at this one, so many great CG remixes on the mixter I've been stating away, but temptation has proven too great, I'll upload when done, thx fer this project :) 11/15/2007 3:20 PM | duckett

Gravatar Calender Girl,

This is a beautiful work of poetry. Magnificent! It does come across to me as a direct conversation. It is so full of love that it changes everything.

Thank you for sharing your beautiful spirit. Those dragons don't have a chance, but can only submit to you.

As an aside: I have listened to the Doghouse Riley version of your song about 100 times. I know it by heart.

Carry on, Good Sister.

With much affection,
