There’s a conversation I have with myself that I never want anyone to overhear. It’s a rat in a cage. It’s a name checked off against a register. The state of things assessed and arranged to suit the moment. Sometimes not pretty. Conversations like this end with a simple command to get up and knock on the next door down the corridor, like Gene Kelly in the dream/movie sequence of “Singing in the Rain”. Gotta Dance!

At the footlights
At the average point
As I waver
I cry foolish tears
But I’m feeling lazy
So take the lion’s share
Take the chance away
I don’t want it anymore
I hide the fuse from the fire
Lean into the lie
Feels like underwater
It’s a special thing
Stand up
Stand outside yourself
Stand away from your dreams
Stand apart
But its getting rainy
It’s all but nearly done
Take the chance away
What was all that for?
I hide the fuse from the fire
Lean into the lie
Feels like underwater
It’s a special thing
On the last day
As I wave goodbye
As I’m waving
I cry foolish tears
But in the nighttime
As the sirens call
As I’m waving
Its as perfect as a pearl
I hide, I hide, I hide the fuse from the fire
I hide, I hide, I hide the fuse from the fire
